We have seen numerous smartphone launches from the past 2-3years. It was all stunning at the beginning. But we hardly see any innovations around design. These days even a small design change can impress the consumer. To attract the buyers, Huawei’s sub-brand has taken a new design approach by adding a unique 180 degree flip camera phone namely, Honor 7i.
Yes, there is clamshell / flip form factor based smartphones in making and project ara is also coming to market in the next year. But still there is a long way for them to gain the market. Flip camera phone is not new to the industry. Gionee and Oppo have already tried their luck.
Honor 7i features a 13MP flip camera
Honor 7i has a thickness of just 7.8mm with a metal frame around the sides. It features a 13MP flip camera, meaning one can use it as a rear as well as front camera just by flipping it. Also, 180 degree flip will allow snappers to take some stunning images without any circus.
Another interesting feature of the phone is a fingerprint sensor on the side panel. We have seen such sensor on back panel and below the display which again makes it unique feature of Honor 7i. It is placed on the left hand side of the device, thus allowing a user to unlock the device using the left thumb or right index finger.
According to the company, the sensor works even when the fingers are sweaty by utilizing “enhanced fingerprint recognition algorithms” technology. It also works as a shutter key for the camera app. Interesting indeed, isn’t it?
Talking about the specifications of the device, Honor 7i comes in two variants. It has a 5.2 inch Full HD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon Octa-core 616 processor and an Adreno 405 GPU. It has a dual SIM capability with LTE connectivity and 3100mAh battery. It runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box, with Huawei’s own Emotion UI 3.1 skin on top of it.
As said before, one of the variant features 2GB RAM and 16GB inbuilt memory and the other having 3GB of RAM and 32GB inbuilt memory. This is the only difference and every other spec remains same with both the variants.
Honor 7i 2GB variant is priced at 1,699 Yuan ($265) and 3GB variant costs 1,899 Yuan ($297). It is currently available in China on pre-order. As Huawei’s sub-brand is also available in international markets like Europe and India, we can expect this Flip Camera Phone to launch in these markets near future.
