At age of full touchscreen and getting rid of different form factors, Spice has released a smartphone with QWERTY keyboard. We got our hands on with this device and here is what we got to say about Spice Steller 360 review.

Well, the world is moving ahead and bringing flexible screens to market. But the local vendor Spice has decided to build a bridge for featured phone users who have addicted to buttons to move towards smartphone world. You can call it a Blackberry of Android. Reason? Read on..

Before getting into our review, let’s have a look at Spice Stellar specifications:

  • 1.3GHz Mediatek Dual Core Processor
  • 3.5 inches HVGA Capacitive touch screen with 320×480 pixel resolution
  • 1500mAh battery
  • Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean
  • Dual SIM, both supporting 3G networks
  • 3.2MP rare camera with LED flash and 1.3 MP front camera
  • 512MB RAM
  • 4GB internal memory and expandable memory up to 32GB

The Spice stellar 360 is a touch and type smartphone with a QWERTY keyboard for those who are still addicted to real keyboard. It is powered by 1.3GHz Mediatek dual core processor supported by 512MB of RAM and Mali 400 GPU. Well, the specs are well suited for the budget friendly smart phone.

The user will be getting only 1.54GB of internal memory out of 4GB after the OS installation. This is very less for the normal usage so the user will have to buy an SD card for the storage.

The good part about stellar 360 is, it supports dual standby and both the SIM cards will be supporting 3G network.

In terms of build quality, spice stellar 360 is completely plastic which is of no surprise considering the amount you will be paying for it. The plastic material isn’t strong enough to withhold the damages if it falls from higher height.

The front side of the device comprises of touch screen, QWERTY keyboard and in between them, there are three capacitive navigation buttons. Resolution of 320×480 pixels won’t promise to give an extraordinary screen. The keyboard is made up of cheap plastic buttons and an exact rip-off of Blackberry keyboard.

One bad thing about the device is, the navigation keys are not placed properly. Spice could have went for a hardware button than the touch-friendly ones as we mistakenly kept touching these buttons and lost our way completely.

Above the screen, there are sensors and 1.3MP front camera. On the right hand side, there is a volume rockers and power lock switch. The top and right doesn’t have anything but the bottom part packs the 3.5mm audio jack and the micro USB port for charging and data transfers. Having audio jack at the bottom will force you to keep the handset upside down in the pocket while listening to music or on call.

On the back we have 3.2MP camera with flash and a loud speaker along with a spice logo.

This handset runs for two years old Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system with a slight modification by spice. Being a stock android, users will be able to change the color scheme and the scenes. Spice has also added its own touches like lockscreen icon notifications for apps. Also, this device comes with many top applications pre-installed.

Spice has also bundled its own Cloud backup service, Spice cloud, and Spice gang, a direct file transmission service that relies on WiFi direct.

As mentioned above, stellar 360 will have a stock android look and feel with very slight modifications. It comes with 3.5 inch capacitive touch screens with a screen resolution of 320×480 pixels. Even though spice mentions about having a wide angle viewing display, we felt swatches of gray appearing on the screen at different viewing angles.

For a low end phone, this is pretty good. You can’t expect to run games which require higher graphics. Also being a QWERTY keyboard handset, playing games in landscape mode will look odd. Apart from that, the phone ran well under limited apps running in the background and showed its true color while many apps were running behind.

The user can dial a number using the QWERTY keyboard which will trigger the touch screen keypad and displays the number being hit. Also, if you wish to use on screen keyboard, take a note that it will cover nearly 60% of the screen which looks awkward.

The Spice stellar 360 sports 3.2MP camera at back with no auto-focus functionality. We managed to click few images and they came out good, even though they were a bit noisy even under daylight. But you can expect a great camera for this price tag.

Coming to video recording, stellar 360 supports recording at 480p but can record at 720p too.

Sound Clarity

Do not expect a miracle. The stellar 360 performs very low, even inside the closed wall.

The Spice stellar 360 packs a 1500mAh battery. Considering the screen resolution it is well enough to provide better battery life under normal usage. We played around with the device by connecting it to a WIFI, occasionally on 3G, calls and messages. It gave a day long battery life which was really impressive.

As mentioned above, the device lags when many apps running in the background. We never faced any heating issue which is a plus point.

We did put the stellar 360 for benchmarks tests. Here is the result of the same.

The Spice Stellar 360 packs a unique form factor and very well crafted for those who are still addicted to real keyboard for typing and for those who find difficulty with full touch screen. This device can build a bridge for those as well as to Blackberry users.

At a budget friendly price tag, Spice Stellar 360 is a good handset to look out for.
